No more plastic bags!

March 20, 2008

We went to the local Keystore on March 7th to help with a bag swap schme – swap 10 plasic bags for a nice Eco-friendly cotton shopper, organic & Fairtrade no less!  There are pictures to follow but a technical hitch has lost them temporarily.

Enjoy this from the Observer instead:

What are we doing?

January 25, 2008

We’ve been coming up with an action plan following our “Environmental Review” – the full plan is at the School Website but we’ve given ourselves an initial plan with a timescale for each activity at a meeting today.  We shared this with the whole school at assembly and it’s here to see too:

WASTE MINIMISATION

Letter opener needed (reuse envelopes) – before long weekend

Collect parents’ email addresses – children to collect on scrap paper as homework task? – end of next week

See Mrs. Bradley & Mrs. Cameron about recycled paper/toilet paper/hand towels – meet week beginning 11th Feb.

Paper recycling bin in each classroom – week ending 15th Feb

ENERGY

Posters to be done for classes to remind them to switch off lights/close doors/turn off computers (posters to be double sided and laminated so that they can be turned over depending on what our current theme is.   Homework task?  Class lessons? – by 15th Feb.

SCHOOL GROUNDS Ask Pupil Council to explore ideas for new play equipment/playground markings – DONE: Pupil council investigating this right now!

As part of the Eco-Schools work, we are required to report back on progress so watch this space!

Eco schools blog

January 22, 2008

At today’s Eco-School committee meeting we decided that as part of our review process we wanted to do lots of things, two of which were:

1 – Save paper

2- Communicate with the rest of the school and the wider community

The first step towards achieving both of these things is here,  the Eco-Schools blog.

We’ve got lots of things in our action plan and we’ll be reviewing it again this week before sharing some of our ideas with the rest of the school.

Watch this space!
